Lerdsin Hospital Advances Kidney Tumor Surgery with 3D Printing and Versius Plus Robot

Lerdsin Hospital continues to raise the bar in advanced surgical technology. A specialized urology team led by Dr. Wasan Settawong, Senior Medical Specialist, has successfully performed Robotic Partial Nephrectomy on a patient with suspected kidney cancer. The procedure incorporated end-to-end digital planning, combining 3D imaging with the Versius Plus robotic surgical system to maximize precision and safety.

A critical milestone in this procedure was the application of 3D Reconstruction technology, allowing surgeons to analyze tumor positioning, blood vessel structure, and surrounding kidney tissue prior to surgery. The hospital then utilized its medical-grade 3D printer to fabricate a personalized 3D Printed Kidney Model. This physical reference enabled the surgical team to simulate steps in advance, reducing operational complexity, protecting healthy kidney tissue, and supporting long-term renal function.

This multi-disciplinary accomplishment—supported by surgeons, anesthesiologists, and operating room nurses—reinforces the vision of the Lerdsin Institute of Robotic Surgery (LiROS). As Thailand’s first training center for mobile modular robotic surgery, LiROS focuses on advancing medical research and healthcare professionals, positioning Thailand as a regional hub for surgical innovation while ensuring patients receive accessible, world-class treatment.
