Xiaomi Auto recorded its highest monthly performance of 2026, delivering over 40,000 vehicles in September. The breakthrough marks the first time the company has surpassed the 40,000-unit monthly milestone this year, rebounding sharply from 31,267 deliveries in July and 30,153 in August. The surge was fueled by the initial delivery phase of the newly launched Sky Nomad series, lifting Xiaomi to fifth place in China’s overall New Energy Vehicle (NEV) delivery rankings for the month.
The delivery milestone underscores the strategic impact of Xiaomi’s entry into the Extended-Range Electric Vehicle (EREV) segment. Launched on September 7, 2026, with starting prices from RMB 209,900 ($31,170), the Sky Nomad series secured over 10,000 locked-in orders within four minutes of its launch event. Supported by pre-built inventory designed to ensure fulfillment within one to five weeks, the model accounted for more than 10,000 units delivered in September, joining the established SU7 sedan and YU7 crossover lineups.
Engineered to resolve range anxiety for long-distance family travel, the Sky Nomad lineup incorporates a 1.5-liter turbocharged generator that recharges the battery pack on the go. The family SUV platform includes five-seat configurations (N70 Pro, N70 Max, and N90 Max Studio) as well as the seven-seat N90 Max. Specifications reveal a pure electric CLTC range of 505 km on the N70 Max battery, while the flagship N90 Max achieves a combined cruising range of 1,705 km with a full fuel tank and complete charge.
The performance comes amid challenging industry dynamics for hybrid systems in China. According to data from the China Passenger Car Association (CPCA), national retail sales of EREVs fell 15.85% year-on-year to 616,000 units during the first eight months of 2026. Despite market headwinds in the segment, brand momentum propelled Xiaomi’s cumulative vehicle deliveries past the 800,000-unit mark in early September.
Meeting full-year corporate objectives will nevertheless require an unprecedented production ramp-up. Across the first nine months of 2026, cumulative deliveries stand between 269,000 and 286,475 units, fulfilling roughly 49% to 52% of CEO Lei Jun’s stated annual target of 550,000 vehicles. To reach that volume, Xiaomi Auto will need to deliver over 263,000 vehicles in the fourth quarter, necessitating an average run rate exceeding 87,000 to 93,000 units per month from October through December.
In the broader Chinese NEV market landscape for September 2026, compiled by CarNewsChina, BYD retained the leading position with 456,713 sales, followed by Leapmotor at 105,656 units, Changan Nevo at 45,607 units, and Xpeng at 41,256 units. Xiaomi secured the fifth spot with approximately 40,000 units, finishing ahead of Huawei’s HIMA alliance (37,490 units), Nio (37,408 units), and Zeekr (37,216 units).
