Chinese President Xi Jinping held talks with U.S. President Donald Trump at the White House in Washington, D.C., calling for turning the new vision of a constructive, strategically stable China-U.S. relationship into practical action and finding the right path for the two major powers to coexist.
President Xi underscored that reciprocal visits between the heads of state within less than six months mark an unprecedented milestone in the history of bilateral relations. Both leaders have maintained consistent communication through multiple channels, working jointly to steer the broader course of China-U.S. ties.
Recalling their agreement in May 2026 to foster a constructive relationship anchored in strategic stability, Xi highlighted that this shared vision reflects current realities while projecting future expectations. He emphasized that bilateral interactions should be defined by cooperation as the mainstream, healthy competition, manageable differences, and reliable peace. Achieving mutual benefit through tangible cooperation, healthy competition, mutual respect, and trust will directly serve the people of both nations and the broader global community.
On economic and trade fronts, economic teams from both countries held a new round of consultations and secured fresh consensus, delivering positive signals to industries and the global economy. Xi noted that cooperation is a two-way street; stabilizing economic and trade relations requires expanding common ground while resolving emerging friction. Sustainable solutions remain attainable as long as both sides uphold equality, mutual respect, and reciprocal benefits.
Addressing sovereignty, Xi reaffirmed China’s firm stance on safeguarding national reunification and territorial integrity. He expressed expectations that the United States adhere to the stance of opposing “Taiwan independence” and handle Taiwan-related matters with utmost caution to preserve the foundation of bilateral strategic cooperation.
The two leaders also exchanged views on key regional and international issues, including developments in the Middle East, the Ukraine crisis, and the Korean Peninsula. Both sides officially affirmed mutual support for each other’s hosting of the APEC Economic Leaders’ Meeting 2026 and the G20 Summit.
