‘AMD Ross’ Agentic AI Assistant to Accelerate Embedded Design and Development Cycle

AMD has officially introduced AMD Ross, an agentic AI assistant engineered to dramatically shorten and simplify the entire embedded development life cycle—moving projects rapidly from initial design concept to production deployment. The platform spans silicon architecture, hardware debugging, PCB layout, schematic reviews, software development, and edge AI implementations.

As embedded engineering grows increasingly multifaceted, development teams frequently face workflow bottlenecks while bridging hardware optimization with edge machine learning workloads. AMD Ross addresses these complexities by uniting AMD’s embedded tooling, trusted internal knowledge base, and expert-authored workflows into a single conversational environment. Through natural-language interaction, developers can easily query technical documentation, execute toolchain commands, generate tailored code, and resolve errors directly inside their working pipeline.

Unlike generic coding copilots, AMD Ross delivers purpose-built embedded capabilities grounded in institutional AMD engineering knowledge. The architecture is built on four core components:

  • Model Context Protocol (MCP) Servers: Open-standard interfaces that establish seamless communication between AI agents and AMD Embedded software environments, enabling direct command execution and status tracking.
  • AMD Knowledge Base: An AMD-validated vectorized database housing official user guides, application notes, and verified answer records, accessible via cloud or entirely local offline systems.
  • Agent Skills: Reusable, expert-authored workflow blueprints that guide AI models through intricate engineering procedures, such as timing analysis and C++ restructuring for Vitis HLS.
  • Ready-to-Run Design Examples: Functional, tested reference designs that showcase real-world deployment of agent-driven workflows.

The system features a client-agnostic design, offering engineering teams the flexibility to work within their preferred IDEs, command-line interfaces, and underlying large language models (LLMs). Capabilities include hardware-software partitioning, silicon debug, automated power estimation, and schematic layout verification across the AMD Embedded ecosystem.

AMD Ross is available now at AMD.com/Ross, with AMD scheduled to deliver rolling monthly updates featuring additional tools and workflow capabilities.
