Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University, has achieved a major milestone in Thailand’s healthcare sector by successfully expanding its home-grown AI chest X-ray interpretation system to more than 610 network hospitals nationwide. Supported by the National Health Security Office (NHSO), this deployment tackles the shortage of specialized radiologists in remote areas and promotes equitable access to high-quality diagnosis.
Developed by the Siriraj AI in Radiology (SiAiR) Laboratory under the Department of Radiology—established in 2019 to advance medical diagnostics—the laboratory has produced over 16 AI innovations. The chest X-ray analysis solution was commercialized in partnership with Perceptra Co., Ltd. and has earned certifications from the Royal College of Radiologists of Thailand, the Thai FDA, and the Singapore FDA, as well as registration in the Thai Innovation List in December 2023.
Following approval by the NHSO board as a covered benefit, the system achieved widespread implementation across 610 public hospitals as of April 2026. This initiative relieves the clinical burden on regional facilities, providing rural patients with diagnostic accuracy comparable to top medical centers while saving travel time and costs.
Behind the system’s learning pipeline, SiAiR utilized HPE Cray Supercomputers paired with a large-scale WekaIO Cluster storage system and high-performance GPUs. This computing infrastructure enabled rapid, high-precision model training, establishing a strong digital foundation to prepare Thailand’s healthcare network for future medical challenges and emerging diseases.
