BANGKOK, October 7, 2026 – Synology Inc. has released findings from the The Synology 2026 Southeast Asia Business AI Transformation Survey, indicating a major readiness gap among enterprises in Thailand. While 86% of surveyed organizations acknowledge that an AI-ready infrastructure is vital for workflows and workforce productivity, only 31.3% view it as “critically important.” This highlights that while Thai businesses recognize the necessity of foundational technology, prioritizing capital investments remains a crucial prerequisite before scaling AI initiatives enterprise-wide.
Data readiness and security remain the most prominent hurdles. According to the survey, 64.4% of respondents cited data security and privacy as their primary obstacle to AI adoption, followed by data quality and availability (47.3%), and initial deployment costs (33.7%). In terms of threat readiness, a mere 9.5% expressed strong confidence in their defense posture against AI-driven threats, while 38.5% stated they are unprepared.
Although 92% of Thai organizations have deployed data protection tools, only 21.4% are highly confident in their ability to swiftly recover from ransomware attacks without compromising backup copies. Furthermore, 32.5% remain uncertain about data recovery viability during a crisis, reinforcing that backup solutions only deliver value when data is reliably recoverable to minimize costly operational downtime.
Antoine Yang, Southeast Asia Head Synology Inc. highlighted that AI is shifting from selecting tools to proving business value. Success now hinges on an organization’s ability to store, access, protect, and activate data fast enough to drive timely decision-making.
In workplace governance, 34% of enterprises currently lack operational policies regarding employee AI usage. Only 26.1% enforce usage boundaries through technical controls, and 47.1% lack visibility into how third-party AI platforms handle outbound enterprise data. This absence of governance stands in contrast to the urgent demand for productivity gains, with 73% of Thai professionals spending over 10 hours weekly on manual documentation tasks.
Rahat Boontunjeen, Country Manager Synology Inc. noted that Workplace AI should start with business value, supported by clear answers on where data lives, who can access it, and what leaves the organization. Auditable controls give teams the confidence to scale.
To transition AI deployments from experimentation to measurable business outcomes, Synology urges enterprises to establish three core pillars:
- Data Infrastructure: Eliminating throughput bottlenecks between storage layers and processing units so that high-performance compute resources operate at peak efficiency, utilizing Data Tiering and Data Reduction strategies.
- Cyber Resilience: Isolating backup environments from production systems and adopting the 3-2-1-1-0 backup rule—incorporating immutable and air-gapped copies while verifying error-free recovery.
- AI in the Workplace with Data Governance: Converting corporate policies into role-based access controls, verifiable activity logs, and transparent data pathways to empower employees while maintaining data sovereignty.
“AI delivers returns when data is ready, systems handle workloads efficiently, and business continuity remains resilient during disruptions. All three must advance in lockstep with AI adoption.” Antoine Yang said
To support this transition, Synology introduced several enterprise offerings, including the PAS7700—its first all-flash NVMe SSD storage solution engineered for mission-critical workloads, which reduced a 100 GB upload duration from 40 minutes to 2 minutes in a deployment with Ethos Media Production. Additional releases include ActiveProtect Appliances featuring immutable backups and air-gap support, the 1U subscription-free DP5200 unit, on-premises Synology Office Suite capabilities, and DSM Agent for natural-language IT operations managed under existing directory permissions.
